More new good food....

For your reading pleasure 2 posts of completely different subjects.....

So this weekend the Hubby and I made Pork with Bell Pepper, an Asian meal, and a braised in barolo bison roast.

Hubby and I have been trying our hand at new things.  Our current obsession is Asian dishes.  I bought a wok before we decided to move and then, because it was on back order, we never got to use it because by the time it arrived we decided to move and it got packed up and put in storage almost immediately.  So now that we have settled into the new house and most everything is unpacked we are using all our stuff.  In the last 3 weeks we have successfully made sweet and sour chicken and beef with broccoli and ginger.  It has been a wonderful adventure and so rewarding when it comes out delicious and we did it ourselves.  I know I know most people go out to eat.  Hubby and I only eat out when we are on vacation.  We are both homebodies.  I love that most about us!

So I would feel comfortable cooking the sweet and sour chicken for guests.  I still need to get the hang of the beef, broccoli and ginger.  The pork with bell pepper was a little spicy, but not too bad, I wouldn't want to eat anything with more heat.  Hubby made soba noodles that his niece had brought him and it was a good accompaniment to the heat of the pork.  Next time I think I would slice the pork even thinner.  I sliced it thin, but I think it could have been cut in half.

Then on Sunday the Bison roast Hubby made was delicious.  We went out on Saturday afternoon to get the ingredients and the recipe called for Barolo wine.  We have no idea about most wines to begin with so we looked it up on the Internet and it sounded like a nice wine.  We went to the wine shop and it was $49.99 for 1 bottle.  so we found a different bottle of wine that used the same grape and that was more than half the expense, either way I don't know what $30.00 more dollars difference would have made.  It was so good.  Hubby made his mashed potato's as well.  A good meal was had by all!  Well me and the Hubby anyway the dogs still had there own meal, its homemade too!!!!!

Last Tuesday I made spaghetti with meat sauce.  It feels so great to be able to be cooking in my own kitchen again.  I am really enjoying myself.  Our local food store is now selling pasta flour so I made my spaghetti with that and it was so silky and homemade pasta just sops up all the juices.  I think the sauce sticks to the pasta better!

Did I tell you Hubby and I also made pizza!  The crust and everything!  I can't wait to do that again!  I am not one to like pizza, but since I get total control I am dreaming of pizza toppings, like next time I want to do a prosciutto, fresh basil and tomato pizza.  I had such fun stretching the dough.  Hubby cooked it on the grill and it was oak fire roasted, just like a proper Italian oven!!! mmm.....  All this food talk is making me want to snack!

Read on about our poor Buddy in the next post!
