What an unexpected weekend development...

Well this weekend off did not shape up the way I expected it to.  I was hoping to finish stripping the bathroom wallpaper border in preparation of painting on my upcoming post Christmas vacation, but an unfortunate situation commanded most of my attention.

You see Friday when I came home from work all the Wogadogs greeted me at the door happily barking and wagging and screeching (Daisy) and they ran out into the fresh air and then I noticed Buddy, my boy, my first love just sitting there unable to move. OH NO I wanted to cry, but I didn't I got down on my knees and was stroking him and he flinched ever so slightly and then got up and did his business and then took 3 or 4 steps and then sat again.  I lifted him and held him close and he kissed my cheek with his soft tongue as if to say "I will be okay Momma, don't be sad" it was too late because I was sad.  I looked down and at my feet was Lili a reminder that when bad things happen recovery is always an option.  I placed Buddy up on the porch and picked up Lili and snuggled with her a second.  She just wanted to lick me all over.  Such love from my doggy charges!

Hubby came home and he too examined Buddy closely.  We agreed to keep him mellow and quiet and if he is still stiff and slow to move in the morning I would take my Buddy to the vet.  Saturday morning arrived and so did a car ride for my best pal!  We arrived at the vet with no appointment and to the vets credit no wait.  He saw us right away.  He took some x-rays of my boy and unlike Lilis x-rays his back was still intact. My boy has an inflammation at the L4, L5 and L6 vertebrate. he also has the beginning of arthritis in his back.  The vet gave Buddy 2 shots and some steroids that he will have to take for the next 10 days.  Thankfully this is treatable and with proper monitoring Buddy should be no worse for wear.  We got home from the vet and Buddy slept most of the afternoon away.  The shots made him a little drowsy.

Sunday morning my boy was up, alert and the pep was back in his step.  It has been a bit of a challenge today to keep him from being too active.  The best part about Buddy is he will stop if you tell him.  He wants to please and not be in trouble.  The meds are working!  The only casualty now is Hubby's feelings because I have to wrap the pills in peanut butter, it's the only way the dogs will take any meds!, and it is also Hubby's favorite food!!!!

Needless to say it has been a very worrying weekend in regards to the dogs.  Buddy's back inflammation is in a totally different place than what Lili had done.  Lilis back was hurt in the T12, T13 area and her disc ruptured completely.

The worst part about Buddy's back occurrence is that it happened on his 8th birthday!  I know I can't believe it either my Buddy is 8!  WOW!!!! he is currently sleeping on the floor his little back feet stretched behind him.  That's a good sign it means he feels no pain or discomfort in his back and that makes for a very happy, happy Momma!!!!

Well Until next post....
