New York, New York....

Monday October 4th and we are up early and on our way to the PATH station to catch the train into the city, New York city, and it is a brisk 4 block walk to the train station, on our way we walk through Seton Hall University. The Weather is gray skies and it looks like rain (sad face) but not to worry I'm on vacation (happy face). The ticket machine is really easy to figure out and the train tracks are marked very well. Our train arrives and we are on our way, along with a lot of commuters!, none the less the ride is a quick one into the city.

As we pull into the World Trade Center stop I was struck by the sheer sadness of the events that happened nine years ago and how you could still see the rubble through the blue tarps and plywood sheets that have been erected to keep us thinking forward, but it doesn't help me to forget. Once we are off the train we make our way to the street and walk down toward the water, The Hudson River, we come across an old stone house that has a garden on top of it it is to end Irish Hunger... hmm... I didn't even know the Irish were hungry. After we walked along the Esplanade and caught a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Then we turned up the street and head down to Wall Street.

Trinity Church, we come across this church and find out is it Episcopalian and Queen Elizabeth II had been there, so I just had to go inside! Inside was simply beautiful and the stained glass windows are just mesmerizing. Across the street is the New York Stock Exchange, all the money in the world trading in there!!! down the street is Federal Hall and a huge bronze statue of George Washington. It is here that I find out the George Washington gave his Inaugural Address on the steps of this building. Then we seek out a big bronze bull and find it in the median of a very busy street. The bull is surrounded by many Korean tourists, we wait our turn and get a picture of the magnificent bronze bull!!!!

Next we head toward the Brooklyn Bridge, a wonderful example of a bridge, by the way it is misty raining in New York and I don't mind at all! Once we see the bridge we make our way to Chinatown and see Confucius's corner on our travels to Little Italy, we have lunch at Rudy's Pizza by the Slice, real New York Pizza and it is delicious (and I am not a pizza person at all!) Once we are done in Little Italy we head to the subway and hop on the N headed uptown! we get out at 34th street and go to the Empire State Building and the Observation Deck on the 86th floor, yikeys it is up there and although it is cloudy and rainy I can still see New York, Hubby stayed Outside on the Deck and I went in and waited and then we headed up 16 more floors the 102nd floor and I held onto a steel girder for my dear life while Hubby checked out the scenery, He said we were in the clouds and it was cool, I for one couldn't wait until we got down from there. I consider it a victory that I went all the way up there and I never will do it again! Of course like every great adventure there is a gift shop at the end!

Back down on the street we headed down 34th street to B and H photo, I know not everyones destination, but we buy a lot of stuff from them on the internet and I felt it would be remiss not to visit the Superstore in person and Hubby also had a chance to check out the new DSLR cameras in person and he could get the feel for what is next to come!! After we headed back to the subway and on the N again up to 5th Avenue and the corner of Central Park, the Park looked stunning and just like on TV The Plaza was right there just beautiful in it's architecture! Then into FAO Schwartz, of course, we saw a chewbacka made entirely out of lego and tons and tons of stuffed animals, I didn't buy a thing! (I wanted to buy stuff, but I also didn't want to walk around New York with a big stuffed bear. I will go back and get something another day!) Once we left the worlds greatest toy store we headed down to St. Patricks Cathedral and went in for peak and WOW!!! simply beautiful. Words cannot express how delicious the stained glass windows are. You must go and see for your self!

Across from the Church is Rockafeller Plaza and of course the Lego store, I bought an Empire State Building to build out of Lego, and we also saw the ice skating rink, that was a big puddle, and where the Today show is filmed. We caught a glimpse of Radio City Music Hall and headed back south on foot to Times Square. The lights are bright and there is so much to looked at and see it was about this time that the rain started to come down pretty hard, so we ducked into the Times Square Brooklyn Diner and had an eighteen dollar hamburger each (I KNOW $18 Hamburger) It was the most delicious burger I ever ate (yeah I know $18 dollars, but it was good!). We went into the M & Ms store and saw every color M & Ms you could ever think of and put together a little bag of black, purple and yellow M & Ms for the Ravens!! across the street is Hershey world so how could we not go in and check out the Kisses and Reese's! Then once we were done in the Square we headed south on the subway back to where we started, the World Trade Center, and New Jersey.

Still full from the burger we decided to call it a night (for $18 I better still be full!), we had an early start to Tuesday anyway because we are headed to Boston....

... til next post....
