Episode 11 - Travel Home Day...

So the previous evening we ordered a wake up call for 6am (1am EST time) and an airport taxi for 8am. Everything happened as planned. We got to the Lisbon Airport at about 8:15 am and headed straight for the US Airways check in counter. Good news neither of us had overweight bags for a change, us and overweight bags is always a concern! We had switched up our souvenir routine and instead of packing the items we carried them on and did not have to pay for overweight bags... victory!!!!! We head straight to the waiting area, we are well early, but early gets you on the flight, late sometimes not so much! Finally we are ready to board and we get our seats. The flight today is pretty full and we do not get the whole row of seats to ourselves and thankfully the person sitting on the aisle is not a large person... whew! The in flight movie for the ride home is The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds and is much better than the other one we had to watch. By this time I had already made the decision that British Airways will always be my international flight of choice that is all there is to it! After the movie I listened to my ipod for a couple of hours and I was so thankful that I brought it because that would have been a really long flight! I still got bored and I have to say I got a little nosey and deducted that the guy sitting next to me was a Professor, he was grading papers, and a lady on the flight knew him and kept coming over explaining her work after she went back to her seat he wrote in red ink all over one of the papers he was grading so I guess it was probably hers!!!! The Professor is also very rude and keeps standing in the very narrow aisle and getting in the way of the attendants. Then when he came back to his seat he just fell in it and shook the whole row of seats. I couldn't help but hope the person behind did not have a drink on their tray because they would have been wearing it. As we got closer to Philadelphia the Captain came on and said for us not to forget to collect our luggage because we would have to go through customs with it. Cool we are getting close the only other part of the deal is that our bags hopefully made back with us!

The plane finally lands and don't you know the connecting flight is 6 terminals away, don't panic for us they had a bus! First things first the bags, we got off the plane and as cattle like as possible we head up a hall way with arrows toward passport check, a lady turned and asked if she was going the right way, last time I checked those sort of hallways were one way streets! We went through passports check with no problems and then landed in the baggage claim area. We both took the opportunity to go to the restrooms while we were waiting and when we came back the bags from our flight we just starting to hit the carousel. Both of our bags made it! and it was off to customs, because 8 flights all landed within 10 minutes of each other the customs was very busy and we were just shuffled through as if it never happened, I was quite happy and yet concerned by this, anyway once we were through customs we got in line for boarding pass check for connecting flights to which we were directed to a BWI sign and at the end of that line 2 men took our bags from us and we hoped we would see them once more! We then found the bus stop and hopped on the bus to take us to the connecting terminal, we could have walked we had plenty of time, but my leg had gone to sleep on the long flight and when I stood up I twisted my knee so we took the bus. The bus deposited us at a remote terminal and once we were situated and found our gate we noticed that the planes had propellers on the wings... nobody think Buddy Holly. Due to this though I was able to see our bags get put on the plane so YAY we were all going to make it back to Baltimore! Once we were in the air we noticed that because the plane was so small it did not rise above the clouds so we had a very interesting birds eye view of the plane ride from Philly to Baltimore and we saw Ripkin Stadium, Oriole Park and Ravens Stadium all from the air it was very cool. Then I saw the runway and then we were on the ground. We headed straight for baggage claim and our bags were out quick we grabbed them hopped on the shuttle bus and found the car. We went straight home and dropped off the bags and went to my Mums and picked up the dogs, they were so excited to see us and truthfully I missed them more than I realized. Once we got home Hubby ran out and picked up Ledo's for dinner.... yummy...

I realize that it took me along time to complete this vacation story and that in the last six weeks a lot has happened since we have been back I will do my best to bring you up to date in my next post so until then....
