Episode 2 - The International Flight

... So we land in Philadelphia with 45 minutes to spare until take off, that means boarding is upon us! So Thankfully in Philadelphia we did not have to repass through any security checkpoints and we were able to run, thank you treadmill without you that concourse to concourse run would have been tragically painful and probably in vain!, We were 2 of the last 4 people to get on the plane, by the way the other couple were also on our previous flight and the guy was wearing flip flops and took them off to run through Philadelphia International Airport (grossed me out yucky!), so we find our seats, this time there is 3 people to each side of a row, and there is already a guy on the aisle seat. He was nice and as soon as the doors were shut and we were taxiing to the runway he noticed that the row of seats in front of us was empty and he moved, so Hubby moved to the aisle seat and we had tons of space! ahh elbow room!!!

The in flight movie is Duplicity with Julia Roberts and Clive Owen so I watched that, its an okay movie I doubt I would've watched if I wasn't contained!!! So the meal comes around and our choice is Chicken or Pasta, I had the Chicken Hubby had the Pasta, I should of had the Pasta. The Chicken was okay a little dry, but then whatever its just a snack anyway portions are not at all large on planes to begin with. By the way U.S. Airways still has the TV on the aisle that everyone has to watch the same thing, I prefer my own TV like what I got on the British Airways flight, but lesson learned! The flight attendants took F O R E V E R to bring the drink cart down the aisle I was parched! at 4 hours into the flight I am thankful that we have that extra seat that's good real estate on a plane! I nap on and off for a couple of hours then I notice that the TV turned off, that is a good sign it means we are almost there.... Yippee I can't wait to change out of the travel clothes. I am so starting to get excited now so I look out the window, there is no sign of daybreak I am trying to do clock math in my head but I don't know... during our flight we had some turbulence, the pilot said it was because we crossed the jet stream but the plane dropped and although it was for just a second it felt like we were falling out the sky scary and exciting all at the same time! Finally I see the sun breaking the day on our horizon and the drinks cart is back with an apple danish, it was okay I just want to get there. I don;t think we are too far from Lisbon now which is great because my hair is a static mess and I poked myself in the eye and now my eye won't stop watering, I am such a calamity! looking out over the clouds looks so sunny what a beautiful day, My nose won't stop running now I have manged to injure myself from my airplane seat could you imagine if I were moving around. The man in front of me is being a fidget and keeps moving my tray around and writing is becoming difficult. I did notice that there is not a lot of children so it has been a pleasant flight. We are descending and I see baggage claim in my future...

... So we have landed and passed through Passport check and headed to carousel 7 and the bags are going around and around and then the thing stops... where is my bag, I feel like Charlie Brown, and we stand there both our bags are missing why why why so we find the U.S. Airways baggage information, our bags are in Philadelphia :-(. The lady told us they will be on the next flight. So dejected we give all our forwarding information to the lady and bead through Customs we have NOTHING to declare... at all. We pick up our rental car and head out of the airport. Its a stunning Hyundai I30 hatchback and of course just like the last foreign vacation Hubby finds it necessary to also throw in the manual transmission version to our challenge!

Find out about our road trip in the next post...
